The money we raise from Funky Flowerz will be sent to the HHI Primary School in Blantyre, Malawi where our teacher, Miss Charles worked last summer. We all have a penpal in the Standard 4 class and have written letters to them this year.
The school was set up in 1909 by a Scottish missionary. It has 1,200 pupils and only 27 teachers. The average class size is around 70 pupils. There is only one small toilet block and no electricity. The school has very few resources and barely any textbooks. We hope our money might buy them some books to use.
The ground is so dry and dusty that the children take turns coming into school early to sweep the classroom and the paths.
Despite the fact that the school has very few resources, the children love coming to school. But just like us they also love the holidays! This is a photo of the children celebrating the last day of term!
